If you are a primarily nonprofit organization, donations will probably make up the bulk of your initial funding, in which case you can send a letter of request for donations to donation agencies. In your letter, you can tell a story; you need to connect emotionally with your readers to motivate them to help you. Do this by telling a story about your organization, your mission and your needs. Include visuals and include a pamphlet in the enclosure so the donor can learn more about your organization. In your letter, be conversational. Again, this type of letter is designed to make an emotional connection, to remind readers of their connection to your cause and to inspire them to take action. Avoid using internal fundraising jargon and focus on a warm and pleasant personality with your wording. The only exception may be a corporate sponsorship letter, depending on the nature and scope of the partnership you hope to have.
